15th International Architecture Exhibition. Reporting from the Front (2016)
Mexico’s participation presented architectures assembled from fragments, modules, relationships, stories, tactics, technologies and construction strategies emphasizing the experiences that could be translated, adapted and multiplied instead of complete works, products or closed systems. The proposal answered questions about the social function of architects and Mexican architecture. The idea of unfoldings refers to the transformations which connect architectures with other times and places and the assemblages to the sum of open participations from affections, effects, actors and intentions.
A Technical Committee was formed and made an open announcement which received 286 proposals from 26 states of the Republic. The 31 selected proposals responded to the characteristic aspects of design beyond architecture, self-construction and community participation. Through a narrative of the history of social participation in Mexico, the exhibition posed a synapse between the past and the present of architecture. A digital platform was created to disseminate, besides the selected works, 87 additional proposals promoting an open code architecture.
